What is sugaring?

Sugaring is an ancient and all-natural form of hair removal. The sugar is made from just three simple ingredients: organic sugar, water, and lemon juice. The sugar wraps around each hair as it is applied and cleanly removes hair in a quick and gentle flicking motion.  Our proprietary brand of sugar is 100% Organic and safe for all skin types.

Why sugaring over traditional waxing?

Sugaring is a less painful and safer alternative to traditional waxing. Sugar is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth and removed in the same direction of hair growth. This makes application smoother and less painful. This also ensures that the hair follicle is fully removed, resulting in smoother, longer-lasting results! With sugaring, there is a much lower chance of experiencing ingrown hairs.

We do have traditional wax available for those who would prefer traditional waxing over sugaring. The traditional wax we use is the most gentle and natural wax available on the market.

How long should my hair be?

Hair can be as short as a grain of rice (about 1/4" long). This length is generally achieved after 2 weeks of no shaving or 3 weeks of no waxing/sugaring.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

We recommend exfoliating the skin 24-48 hours before your sugaring or waxing appointment. This ensures the wax or sugar adheres to the skin for optimal hair removal. Also, while sugaring is less painful than traditional waxing, you may still experience discomfort and pain during your appointment. To reduce inflammation and pain, you may take an analgesic 30-45 minutes prior to your appointment.

We suggest coming to you appointment well-hydrated and to avoid caffeine and alcohol beforehand. Caffeine and alcohol generally increase blood flow and may cause your skin to be more sensitive than normal.

Once you arrive, you will need to complete a consent form prior to services, so it is also recommended you arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

When should I not sugar or wax?

It is NOT recommended you wax or sugar if you:

  • Are currently using retinol or Retin-A products (or have used these products in the past week);

  • Are currently using Accutane (or have used Accutane in the past 12 months);

  • Currently have irritated, rashed, inflamed, or sunburnt skin.

What can I expect after my appointment?

Your skin will likely be more sensitive after your appointment. That is completely normal.

However, if your skin becomes very irritated or painful to the touch, we recommend calling Sugarwax. One of our estheticians will be able to speak with you regarding your skin and what you may be experiencing.

Is there anything I should avoid afterwards?

For 24 hours after your waxing or sugaring appointment it is recommended you avoid/limit the following, as your follicles are open and these activities may cause irritation:

  • Tight clothing

  • Hot tubs and pools

  • Intense exercise or sweating

  • Sexual intercourse

  • Sun exposure
